Michael Hughes is an NMC-registered Health Visitor and Paediatric Health Consultant specialising in child development, family nutrition, and preventive healthcare. He holds a BSc in Nursing from the University of Manchester and a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification. With 15 years across NHS health visiting services and family health consultancy, he currently advises on child development programmes and family wellness strategies.

Michael Hughes began his healthcare career as a paediatric nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he developed a deep understanding of child health and the crucial role that early intervention plays in lifelong wellbeing. He subsequently completed his Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification to become a Health Visitor, working for over a decade within NHS community services conducting developmental reviews, supporting struggling families, and identifying early signs of developmental delay or safeguarding concerns. Michael holds additional qualifications in infant feeding, childhood obesity intervention, and attachment-informed practice, allowing him to support families through complex health and developmental challenges. His experience spans diverse communities across England, giving him insight into how socioeconomic factors, cultural backgrounds, and family dynamics influence child health outcomes. Michael is particularly passionate about helping parents navigate the overwhelming and often contradictory advice they receive about nutrition, screen time, development milestones, and vaccine decisions. He has developed expertise in translating clinical guidelines and research evidence into practical guidance that respects parental autonomy whilst ensuring children receive appropriate support and protection. Michael also works with adults on preventive health screening and chronic condition management, understanding that family health is interconnected. His writing addresses both parents seeking guidance for their children and adults taking responsibility for their own preventive health within the UK healthcare system.
